John Atkins: New England Patriots

What was that I said about Bill Belichick? Oh that’s right, he loves him some Dawgs! If two players wasn’t enough for him in the first round, he swung back and grabbed another.

John Atkins is such a Patriots type of player. He does one thing and he does it remarkably well. His time in Athens was spent trying to soak up opposing blockers and allow Roquan Smith and his LB’s to make tackles. He did a pretty fantastic job of that and its what I would expect to see form him in New England.

The Pats love guys like this. He’s not someone you see on the stat sheet very often. He’s also not someone that you hear about in news articles. But Atkins just makes everyone else around him a little bit better because he makes their life easier. The Pats defense was an understated train wreck at times last year. The Eagles pretty much destroyed them in the Super Bowl and they were not the only ones.

Call me a homer, but I really think Atkins finds a way to stick around with Belichick. He’s a hard worker with no ego who just puts his nose down and does his job. That’s Patriots football guys. that’s all it is. Throw in the fact that the dressing room will also have 4 guys he used to play with in it. It’s genuinely hard to imagine Atkins falling into a better situation than the one he just landed in.
