JD Bertrand:
Bertrand might be one of the most underrated players in the 2019 class. Standing at 6-1 and 215lbs, he’s already built like someone who can come in and grown into an inside backer. A lot of draft websites have him ranked as an OLB. But in this UGA system, he’s a classic inside guy. He’s got the speed and versatility to cover as well as stuff the run. There’s also some pass rush ability in there as well.
Bertrand isn’t talked about very often and that suits him just fine. He’s been lifelong best friends with Dominick Blaylock and Ryan Goede who are also UGA commits. All three of those guys have wanted to play together for a really long time. They’ve been friends for years but go to different high schools.
As the first of the three to commit to UGA, Bertrand kind of set the trend. None of those three are very interested in the recruiting circus. All of them have pretty much shut down everything and are looking forward to coming to UGA. There’s also a really good chance that all of them will make an impact in Athens.
There is a lot to like in his film. Maybe he’s not as explosive as some, but the guy makes plays. He’s got great LB instincts just like Monty Rice and I can see him finding his way onto the field. Is he the next Roquan Smith? No he’s not, but Bertrand is a player who will make a name for himself between the hedges.
