Georgia Football has lots of position battles going on right now, but the heavyweight contest is happening at right tackle.

One of the things that Kirby Smart has instilled since he arrived in Athens in competition. Many will look no further than the Georgia Football QB room to see this philosophy in practice. However, there is another position battle that’s going on right now. This one is also occurring on the offensive side of the ball and it’s also between two 5-star players.

The right tackle position is up for grabs this year. Andrew Thomas played almost every snap in 2017 and so is moving over to the left side. Initial reports are very positive and Thomas has the look of a future 1st round tackle right now. Considering his size and physical ability, there is a very good chance he ends up being a better player than Isaiah Wynn who just went 23rd overall.

His transition has opened up the right side. That means that two tackles who had higher ratings than Thomas will have a shot at the job. Much like the QB battles, both of these players were stars in the past 2 classes. The difference, however, is that neither has actually seen the field yet in Athens.

This is one of the most exciting position battles that is going to happen this offseason. Isaiah Wilson and Cade Mays were two of the nastiest offensive linemen in the nation in high school. Now they’ll fight it out in Athens for a place on the field.
