Wilson holds serve this spring:

Isaiah Wilson arrived in Athens with a lot of fanfare. He was the highest-ranked player that Georgia signed in 2017. Not Andrew Thomas, not Jake Fromm and not D’Andre Swift. When the class was signed, it was Wilson that many thought would be the best player of this group.

That’s high praise and it’s taken Wilson time to get rolling. He was not an early enrollee and he arrived in the summer and immediately struggled with the heat. Having come from Brooklyn, he simply wasn’t used to the temperatures he faced in Georgia. He also arrived as a very raw player. New York high school football isn’t exactly the best. A player like Wilson who stands 6-7 and over 350lbs doesn’t really need to use technique.

The decision was made to redshirt Wilson and it looks to have paid off. Despite being a star recruit, he accepted this role and embraced it. As the season went on, he started to shine on the scout team which earned him the starting RT role going into the spring.

Since then, Wilson has yet to let go of the job. On G-day, we saw him look pretty solid going against a good defensive front. He blew the occasional play, but overall he kept Jake Fromm clean. In short, Wilson clearly showed that he was comfortable as the starting right tackle going into the fall. The only question, is whether the new guy might be even better?
