4. Oregon Ducks

Oregon is ranked just slightly ahead BYU in the average rankings. The Ducks are ranked no. 37 with a 41.08 average. But unlike the Cougars, Oregon hasn’t won a national championship. And they’ve never had a 25-year stretch of almost unmatched consistency.

And Georgia didn’t play Oregon at one of their highs either. The one game between Georgia and Oregon took place in Athens in 1977 with the Dawgs winning  27-16. Oregon ended the season 3-8. They wouldn’t have a season with more than six wins until 1989.

3. Stanford Cardinal

Finally, here’s a jump in the average rankings. Stanford sits at no. 25 with an average ranking of 31.00. The Cardinal claim two national titles, one in 1926 and another in 1940. They also have 35 consensus All-American’s, four more than Georgia. And the one time Georgia and Stanford played, the Cardinal beat the Bulldogs 25-22 in the 1978 Bluebonnet Bowl.

Although after that game, both programs began moving in opposite directions. Georgia won a National Championship just two years later and were one of the best teams of the 1980’s. Stanford, who finished 8-4 in 1978, wouldn’t have back-to-back winning seasons until 1991 and 1992. And from 1979-to-2010, they only won seven or more games eight times.
