With the Tuesday’s win over Georgia Tech, the Georgia Bulldogs have now defeated the Yellow Jackets in every head-to-head sport this year.

“Clean, Old Fashioned Hate?” More like ruthless and merciless domination. This past year, in almost every sport where Georgia and Georgia Tech meet for a head-to-hand match-up, the Bulldogs came out on top. The Yellow Jackets could barely sniff a victory over the Dawgs. The only sports Georgia didn’t best Tech in are womens’ tennis and sports that Tech doesn’t compete in. But I am certain that Georgia would have won those matches as well.

The reign of terror began in November. Not with football, but with swimming and diving. The womens’ team won 182-119 and the men won 179-121. Tech could barely make the podium in some events.

Then, of course, Georgia football squashed the insects 38-7 in Atlanta. besides cutting the lead to 14-7 late in the first half, Tech was never in the game. The Bulldogs responded to that score by slapping 24 points on Tech in the final 30:03 of the game. The icing on the cake was the 78-yard touchdown catch by Ahkil Crumpton from Jake Fromm.

The women’s basketball team picked up where the football team left off by slapping Tech around in the third quarter. With Georgia Tech leading 29-26 at halftime, the Lady Dawgs outscored the Jackets 20-7 in the third quarter to take a 46-36 lead. Those 10 points proved too much for Georgia Tech.

Just three days later, mens’ basketball wrecked Tech in a much more drastic fashion. Tech once again kept the game close at halftime, the Bulldogs led 36-34 at the break. But a 15-of-21 performance from the field, which included the Dawgs best game from beyond the arc, allowed Georgia to outscore Tech 44-25 in the second half. Georgia won the game 80-59.

The mens’ tennis squad played the Jackets next, back in February, and they of course won 4-0. The tennis team has probably been the most dominant of Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs have won 31 of the last 32 meetings and have a 64-9 lead in the series. How bout them Dawgs?

This Georgia versus Georgia Tech tennis match had the distinction of a national television slot. The Tennis Channel aired Georgia’s slaughter of the Jackets. None of the matches needed a third set. Georgia. Georgia’s defeated Tech in two of the three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. The Dawgs quickly got the last three victories needed to end the show. Volleyball conquered the Jackets next. Back in late March, they won a both matches to leave Atlanta with a 2-0 victory.

Georgia’s year of dominance over Tech ended with a clean sweep in softball and baseball. Georgia baseball began their series with Tech on April 3 and defeated them 4-0 with 14 strikeouts and only four hits allowed by the Dawgs pitching staff. The next day, Alyssa DiCarlo’s solo home run lifted Georgia softball to a 1-0 victory in Atlanta.

The baseball club traveled to Georgia Tech on April 25 and escaped with an 8-3 victory. Georgia scored all eight runs between the fifth and eighth innings. And last night, in the Spring Classic at SunTrust Park, Georgia wrecked Tech one more time. Another great pitching performance gave the Dawgs a 3-1 victory.

For the Georgia fans, beating Georgia Tech is nothing new. We have come to expect it. But to clean house with them for an entire year of sports. From November to May, that brings a smile to my Bulldawg face. All is right with the world, especially in the Bulldog Nation.
