Georgia Baseball finished off a fantastic regular season by beating number 6 ranked Arkansas in their final game before postseason play.

What a difference a year makes. The Georgia Baseball team has been completely reborn in 2018. After last season, many Dawg fans were expecting head coach Scott Stricklin to pay the price for 4 disappointing seasons. But AD Greg McGarity stuck by Stricklin and his team has dramatically improved in year 5.

They finished off the regular season with a series win over number 6 ranked Arkansas. The win, not only came against one of the nations best teams. It also gave UGA the tiebreaker over the Razorbacks and giving them the number 3 seed for the SEC tournament.

Once again, Keegan McGovern was instrumental in the win. The senior hit his 15th home run of the season and made the game-winning out in the field. He, like many others, has really raised his level of play this year.

The Dawgs will end the regular season with a  37-17 record for the season and 18-12 in the SEC. That’s 10 wins more than Stricklin had achieved in any of his previous seasons. The SEC has once again had a great season of baseball. Only Alabama has a losing record in the conference and they boast 6 of the nations top 25 teams. Arch rival Florida will go into the postseason as the nations number one ranked team.

There’s little doubt that this UGA team has a real chance to make some noise in the postseason. Players like McGovern have really stepped up and they have a shot to take down the Gators. UGA start the tournament against either Texas A&M or Vanderbilt on Wednesday. That tough test will likely be followed by Ole Miss and then Florida. Winning in this tournament remains one of the toughest challenges in college baseball, but this year, the Dawgs have a shot.
