Wait, who was number 1?

Seriously you guys. You guys, seriously. I get that Tagovailoa just won the national championship game. I understand that he looked really good in the half of football that he played against one of the best defenses in the entire country. But can we please pump the brakes a bit. Nobody is doing this kid any favors right now.

Tagovailoa might be the second coming of Joe Montana, but right now, his resume after his freshman year is less robust than Christian Hackenberg. He’s played one half of football against a team that wasn’t expecting him to play. The only reason he got in the game is that the other QB was so terrible, that the best team in the entire country put up zero points in a whole half of football.

He looked really good and he made an amazing pass to win the championship in overtime, but calm down. That one half of football doesn’t make him instantly better than every other QB in the SEC. This ranking isn’t based on the reality of anything we’ve actually seen. It’s based on trying to drive people to debate an article and it’s not helping the kid. Heres something Bama fans don’t want to hear. Tua is going to have some bad games. When that happens, rankings like this will lead to Tide fans screaming for his head and calling him a pathetic failure. Which is of course exactly what just happened to Jalen Hurts…

This ranking is click-bait at it’s absolute worst. Could he be the best passer in the SEC this season? Absolutely, but until we’ve seen more than 53 passing attempts (half of which were against second units in garbage time), nobody has a clue. So spare me the ‘he won the natty’ line. Nobody thinks this guy is the best QB in the SEC right now and that includes Nick Saban.
