Georgia Basketball head coach Tom Crean has finished building his coaching staff and one of them is a highly regarded coach from an SEC rival.

It took a bit of time, but Tom Crean has completed his coaching staff. Amir Abdur-Rahim and Joe Scott have signed contracts to join Chad Dollar and complete the staff. Dollar joined the staff a month ago after Jay Hayes made the decision to move to Xavier. He used to work at Georgia Tech and has lots of connections on the Georgia Basketball recruiting scene.

That’s something that Abdur-Rahim will bring as well. He graduated from high school in Marietta and was the head of basketball operations at Georgia Tech so he brings a deep understanding of the state to this position. Alongside Dollar, Abdur-Rahim should bring an improved focus on recruiting to UGA. He has a tremendous reputation in the state and is seen by many as a future head coach.

Joe Scott brings more experience to the role than the other two. He has been a head coach three times at Air Force, Princeton and Denver. He has previously shown a great ability to develop players and should be a great fit alongside the younger coaches. Dollar and Abdur-Rahim both could be head coaches one day. Having Scott in the building alongside Crean means that they will be getting great development themselves. That’s something that is often overlooked but it’s an important part of Crean’s job.

All in all, Crean has hired a solid staff. He’s got two young and hungry recruiters who know the state very well and an experienced coach who can develop players. That’s a great start and likely gives Georgia a good chance to improve in the coming season.
