Strengths of the program:

The Governors can run the ball. And boy do they run it. They run a similar system to what UGA see each year from Georgia Tech and it is unlikely Oatsvall throws the ball very much. He’s a dual-threat QB who runs almost as much as he throws. They also run a multiple back system that will feature 2 running backs who ran for over 600 yards last season. Tanner is more of an every-down player, but Junior Kentel Williams has more explosiveness to him. He averaged just under 7 yards per carry in 2017.

Much like Georgia last season, they will rely heavily on that 2 back system. They will also rely on Oatsvall to pull it down and run when given the opportunity. This is actually a good matchup for UGA who will want to test their defensive line before the SC game. The Dawgs stuffed the run against almost everyone in 2017. However, they have lost a lot of key components to the defense that was so stout in that part of the game. Austin Peay will test them in this area.

From a defensive perspective, the Dawgs will need to watch Jaison Williams. The Defensive end accounted for 9.5 sacks last season and 4 forced fumbles. He’s the most impactful player on the Governor’s defense and the Dawgs will need to stop him. Protecting Jake Fromm and Justin Fields will be important for the OL against this opponent. They will have a much bigger challenge going up against SC in week 2.
