Georgia Football could find itself in a similar position to last season if reports about Tramel Walthour going to JUCO College prove true.

Georgia Football is already running pretty light on depth on the defensive front. It now looks like the Dawgs will not be getting one of the reinforcements that were expected this summer. Kipp Adams from 247 sport has reported that it looks like Tramel Walthour, a DT recruit in the 2018 class will be attending JUCO College.

Walthour was rumored at one point to be taking a Greyshirt earlier this spring. There have been some concerns about his grades but it now looks that he will be taking at least a year away from Athens. Hutchinson CC is the same school that Devonte Wyatt spent last year at. The 2017 defensive tackle also missed his freshman year at UGA due to grades.

Wyatt was able to work hard at Hutchinson and get his grades up in just 6 months. He worked hard and joined the Georgia program in December, going through postseason practices. Coaches will now be hoping that Walthour has the same experience. If he’s unable to achieve similar progress, it is likely that Walthour will have to spend 2 years in the JUCO ranks. That does not help Georgia’s depth at the position which is already thin.

Next: 94 days to go!!

losing Walthour for 2018 isn’t the end of the world. He’s a raw talent who might have been redshirted, but it doesn’t help either. The addition of Graduate Transfer Jay Hayes looks increasingly important and Wyatt himself will be heavily relied upon this coming season.
