Georgia Softball bows out of the College World Series
The Georgia softball team saw their season come to an end this weekend after a loss to Florida State knocked them out of the College World Series.
And just like that, it comes to an end. The Georgia Softball season that saw such an exceptional turnaround has unfortunately come to a close. The Lady Dawgs lost both of their games in the College World Series and were eliminated.
The first defeat was to a Florida side that played lights out. The score ended up being a bit of a blowout as they lost 11-3. In their second match however, the Dawgs played much closer and there was a time where momentum was in their favor. Unfortunately, things got away from them and they ended up losing to Florida State by a score of 7-2.
It was a sad end to a great season by the team. Having finished last in the SEC last year, they bounced back in impressive fashion. They put together a season that saw 48 wins compared to just 13 losses. That’s a fantastic improvement and is one of the main reasons they made it to Oklahoma.
They also accomplished his without their star player for much of the late season. Brittany Gray was clearly the star pitcher for the team early on. The Senior was incredible before an injury, winning 16 of her 18 starts. She accumulated an ERA of just 0.48 which is pretty darn incredible. Her pitching would have been so useful at the business end of the season but it wasn’t to be.
The Lady Dawgs finish their season with their heads held high. Hopefully they can continue the good form into the 2019 season with several key position players returning for their senior year.
