Georgia Baseball took it’s final loses of the 2018 season yesterday when two defeats by the Duke Blue Devils knocked them out of the NCAA tournament.

The Georgia Baseball team couldn’t quite make it any further in 2018. After their best season since the arrival of head coach Scott Stricklin, they tapped out yesterday. Having won their first two games of the double elimination challenge in the NCAA’s, they took on a Duke side that was ranked second in their group.

The Dawgs had home-field advantage but unfortunately lost two games in a row. In doing so, they were knocked out and Duke advanced out of the NCAA regional. It was a sad end to a very good season from the Bulldogs. They ended up winning 39 games this season and looked to be finally reaching their potential under Stricklin. The head coach was on a very hot seat coming into this year after 4 disappointing seasons.

But a strong regular season was not matched by post-season play. The Dawgs were beaten in their first two games of the SEC tournament and bowed out early. The losses to Duke meant that they did not take advantage of the number 8 seed that they received for their strong season of play.

Still, its a step in the right direction for a program that has been starving for success for years. They will hope to continue that in 2019 when they should once again have a solid team and a years more experience. It sucks to bow out early, but the future looks a lot brighter now than it did to start the season. It’s now up to Stricklin to take this team a step further in 2019 and reach the College World Series.
