Georgia Football 2018 Preview: South Carolina Gamecocks
Who were they in 2017?
2017 was a year of progress for South Carolina. They put together a respectable 9-4 season that culminated with a huge win over Michigan at the Outback bowl. Much like Kirby Smart, Will Muschamp delivered in his second season and his team saw a real improvement across the board.
It started off with them beating preseason darling NC State in a neutral site kickoff game. before overcoming a weak Missouri team early on. There were other good wins throughout the year, including a 15-9 win over Tennessee and a 28-20 win over Florida. With the victory over Michigan, the Gamecocks claimed their spot as the 2nd best team in the SEC East.
In short, they took advantage of a weak division. As all Dawg fans know, 2017 was a rough year for UGA’s SEC East rivals. Tennessee and Florida both had really down years and struggled. The Gamecocks won both games, but they didn’t really impress in either. A win is a win and that’s what they needed to do, but the Gamecocks still have a long way to go.
To start with, they struggled against good teams. While they put up a fight against both Clemson and Georgia, the Gamecocks were a long way from winning either game. They also lost to a not very good Texas A&M side. In short, it was a good but not great season for SC who beat everyone the were supposed to beat, but never really surprised anyone.
