Georgia Football will look to young players in secondary
Tyson Campbell needs to make an immediate impact:
If Tyson Campbell isn’t the most highly regard CB the Dawgs have ever signed, he’s pretty damn close. A consensus top 15 player, Campbell is basically the prototype for a shutdown cornerback. Standing at nearly 6ft 3 and long in the arms, Campbell has the perfect size to guard even the tallest receivers. He’s also incredibly explosive and is probably the fastest player UGA has on their roster right now. Quicker than Mecole Hardman, Terry Godwin and Eric Stokes.
The Dawgs are going to need that potential to shine through early. With holes in the secondary, they are going to need to consider throwing him onto the field pretty early. That’s especially true when you consider some of the receivers they are going to be going up against this season.
It’s tough to put that much pressure on a kid this young, but sometimes it happens. Just to be clear, Campbell will not be a bust in Athens if he isn’t an immediate starter. It’s just for this year to go as well as many fans want, he does need to step up and play a role. This is a position group that has holes and nobody quite like him from a physical perspective. Ideally, you would want to see him showing signs of being a shutdown guy by the time the year ends.
Will that happen? Who knows, but the Dawgs need it to. Campbell won’t just be handed the job, there is plenty of talent right now in the UGA Secondary group. However when you come to a school with the reputation that Campbell did, you’re expected to deliver, and soon.
