Georgia Football will look to young players in secondary
Other names to look out for:
There are a few other players who will be worth watching when we get to training camp. The 2017 and 2018 classes both had plenty of very talented defensive backs in them. Kirby Smart saw that group as a problem and heavily recruited it. Now those guys need to force themselves a spot.
Chris Smith and William Poole are two players in particular to keep an eye on. They were teammates in high school an have similar profiles. While both are under 6ft tall, they are natural CB’s who love to tackle and play defense. Both of these guys could be a real factor in the battle for the star position this season.
Ameer Speed and Tray Bishop are two very large physical guys who could also make an impact. Speed is 6ft3 and has a really unique body type of he position. He will need to beat out Webb or the outside CB spot but I wouldn’t rule it out. Bishop is more of a safety and he’s a fantastic athlete. However, he’s dealing with an off the field issue at the moment and we don’t know if he’ll be with the team.
Next: 79 days until football!!
Last but not least you have freshman Otis Reese. He’s someone a lot of teams saw as a linebacker but UGA like him as a safety/star. One of the most violent hitters I have ever seen in high school, Reese could see the field in certain sets if he’s ready. He could be the perfect replacement for JR Reed when the time comes for Reed to go pro.
