Georgia Football finally found its 2019 quarterback when 2 sports athlete John Rhys Plumlee committed to the Dawgs on Friday night.

It takes a confident guy to walk into the Georgia Football QB room right now. With Justin Fields and Jake Fromm, it looks like the job is sewn up for the next 3-4 years. However, the Dawgs still need some depth, especially with walk-on Stetson Bennett deciding to move on.

Enter John Rhys Plumlee. A 6-1 dual-threat QB from Mississippi that is ranked by many of the recruiting services and an athlete. Dan Lanning was heavily involved in his recruitment as he has been for a lot of players from the Magnolia state. Plumlee made his commitment to Georgia on Friday night in a Twitter post:

Plumlee is exactly what the Dawgs were looking for at QB this year. He’s a talented athlete who is raw but could well become a quality QB. He’ll provide depth behind the two stars they currently have now, but he could also develop. The talent is there and at UGA he’ll have time to grow behind Fields and Fromm. If he does, he has a chance to possibly take over the job when both of them are gone.

One of the selling points for Plumlee will also be that he can play baseball on a competitive UGA team as well. As the 3rd QB, he will be able to play both sports and likely compete for SEC titles at both. I’ll be doing a bit of a deep dive into Plumlee’s film later this weekend and will put it up soon.

But for now, Dawg fans can relax a bit when it comes to the 2019 class. Their team got their first recruiting win of the summer and knowing Kirby Smart, it won’t be the last.
