Key 2019 targets

But before we all start panicking, let’s just remember a few things. Firstly, it’s the middle of June. This time last year, UGA’s 2018 class was still looking somewhat suspect. Kirby Smart and his staff know how to close down the stretch and they won’t care about who is recruiter where at this point. They will believe they can flip anyone if they try.

There are also some very talented guys still out there. Travon Walker is the next 5-star DT from Georgia. He’s a physical freak who could be an absolute monster in Athens. He’s been the highest priority for Scott and Kirby Smart for more than a year. Land him, and pretty much nobody will remember who CJ Clark even is.

There are several other very highly regarded DT’s out there this year. Faatui Tuitele is anothr 5-star out of Hawaii. UGA has never been known to pull guys like him from that far away. However, with Georgia’s new national profile it’s certainly possible. They didn’t make his top 5, but since when did that sort of thing ever stop Kirby Smart. Alabama seems to be a favorite for Tuitele right now, so why can’t UGA get in the mix as well?

The Dawgs are also pushing hard for Nathan Pickering from Mississippi and Derrick Hunter out of Florida. Both of those guys have legit pass rushing potential and the Dawgs seem to be in a good position with both. In short, the stable is by no means dry and there is still a long way to go. Scott still has a chance to put together a solid defensive line class.
