How his current players can help Scott bring in more guys

Scott could use a little help however. Some of that might come from Kirby smart over the next few months. As  said at the beginning, Kirby has coached some of the best DT’s in the business at Alabama. He’s one of the bright young head coaches in football right now. Smart can make a big difference for defensive players if he puts his energy into their recruitment.

But Scott could also use some help from his players. One of the things that I have learned about Scott since he arrived is that he’s a very honest coach in recruiting. He doesn’t lie to players and sell the a false bill of goods. Parents seem to genuinely love him and that’s normally a good thing. But he’s a young guy who doesn’t have much of a reputation yet for putting guys in the NFL.

His 2017 class was good, but was disappointing on draft day. Trenton Thompson left a year before he probably should have done due to injury issues. John Atkins didn’t really have a draftable profile. Things are very different this year and Scott’s players could help him land some elite talents by showing out.

I for one was very impressed with how much UGA’s D-line improved in Scott’s first year. Their technique was considerably improved and they just seemed hungrier than in 2016. Tyler Clark and Jonathan Ledbetter look like 2 players who can help Scott on the trail. If they continue to get better and become dominant players in his 2nd year, then Scott now has a portfolio to sell to recruits.

The thinking around the recruiting community is hat NC State beat out Scott for Clark because they just had 4 guys drafted on their D-line. If UGA’s D-line continues to improve and get even better next year, then Scott will really benefit. Considering how well Georgia is recruiting everywhere else, this could be the last building block to a future UGA dynasty.
