The 2018 Georgia football season begins in 72 days
We are so close to saying that there are just 10 weeks until the 2018 Georgia football season begins. There are only 72 days until the Dawgs kickoff against Austin-Peay. That number, 72, is very significant for Georgia football, specifically for one player; David Greene.
In his four years as starting quarterback, Greene threw a then school record 72 touchdowns. Five more than Eric Zeier. That also ranks no. 14 in SEC history.
Greene’s best season predictably came in 2002. He threw 22 touchdown passes that year with just eight interceptions. He also had 2,924 yards that season to help lead the Bulldogs to a 13-1 record and a SEC Championship, their first in 20 years.
That year followed a 17-touchdown campaign in his 2001 freshman season. He only threw nine interceptions that year with 2,789 yards. Greene followed his terrific sophomore season with 3,307 yards in 2003. But he only had a career low 13 touchdowns and a career high 11 interceptions. Although his struggles that year coincided with Fred Gibson missing three games.
Greene bounced back in 2004 with 2,508 yards with 20 touchdowns and a measly four interceptions. His great senior year included a five-touchdown game against LSU and a streak of seven games without an interceptions.

When Greene left UGA, he was undoubtably one of the best players in school history. Combined with five rushing touchdowns, Greene scored 77 touchdowns as a Bulldog, the most in school history at the time. His 11,528 career passing yards was also a career record. But his biggest record was his 42 career victories, which set a NCAA record that stood for five years.
