Georgia Baseball rewards Scott Stricklin with new contract
Georgia Baseball had it’s best season in a long time in 2018. As a result, the Dawgs rewarded their head coach with a new contract.
Scott Stricklin came into the 2018 season on the hot seat. A lot of Georgia Baseball fans were wondering why the head coach still had a job after the 2017 season. The Dawgs had once again been disappointing that year and Stricklin was yet to get it right in his 4 years in Athens.
What a difference a year makes. In 2018, The Dawgs finally became the force that many were hoping would happen when Stricklin arrived. They went 39-21 for what was by far their best season in quite some time.
Unfortunately, all of that regular season success did not translate to the postseason. The Dawgs were knocked out of the SEC Tournament early and were unable to capitalize on their top 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Despite having things set up well for them, they were unable to make it past the initial stages of either event.
However, that doesn’t take away from a very successful year for the Dawgs. Stricklin was rewarded this week with a new contract that will keep him in Athens through 2022. It took him some time to get there, but the Dawgs look like they are back on the national stage in Baseball.
Next: Yante Maten will be in Miami for the Summer League
While they lose some key players, UGA is expected to return a good team next year. They will also add Cole Wilcox who was considered by many to be a top 20 talent in this most recent MLB draft. He could be the ace this team has been looking for. If he is, then the Dawgs could be right up there again, pushing for a championship over the next few years.
