The 2018 Georgia football season begins in 70 days.

Just 10 more weeks Dawg fans. Just 70 days until the 2018 Georgia football season kicks off between the Hedges in Sanford Stadium. 70 is not a number that’s easy to associate with Georgia football. It’s not even a number you see on the scoreboard that often.

But there is one game in recent memory where Georgia did score 70. In 1994, Eric Zeier and Terrell Davis led the Dawgs to a 70-6 win over Northeast Louisiana. A team better known today as Louisiana-Monroe.

ULM is a Sun Belt Conference team, but they’ve played 48 games against SEC schools. They’ve played more games against SEC teams than any other conference excluding their own. And their record in those games is 44-4. Those four wins include some pretty huge upsets, including a win over Alabama in 2007.

But the Warhawks haven’t had that luck against Georgia. The Bulldogs are 4-0 against ULM including the 70-6 win in 1994. Mercifully, the game was not on national TV so the breaks were short. Today, teams would suffer through a 64-point slaughtering for an extra 30 minutes to an hour.

The game was also short for Eric Zeier who dipped out after completing eight of his 10 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns. The emphatic win ended up as one of the lone highlights of a disappointing season.

The 1994 Dawgs didn’t live up to expectations with a sour performance against Tennessee, a heartbreaker against Alabama and a upset loss to Vanderbilt. The only loss that felt justifiable was the loss to Florida in Gainesville. Georgia did salvage the year with an upset tie against Auburn and a blowout win over Georgia Tech.

That was the last time Georgia would reach 70 points. The Bulldogs reached 70 nine times previously including a pair of 100-point games. The best 70-point game in school history was a 75-0 win over Florida in 1942.
