The Georgia Bulldogs had a very good year on the spreadsheets in 2017/18 as well as on the field.
It looks like a good year on the field leads to money off of it. The Georgia Bulldogs put together their best football season in more than 30 years in 2017. Their reward was not only a Rose Bowl victory but also a huge chunk of cash. According to USA Today, The Dawgs moved up from 15th in the nation to 6th in revenue this past season. They brought in just under $158 million during their fiscal year. That figure is good for 2nd in the SEC behind only Alabama.
The Dawgs also by far had the lowest level of cost in the top 10. Their overall expenses were calculated at $119 million, more than 10% less than any other program. The Dawgs spent less than any other program in the top 18, even 20th ranked team in revenue Washington spent more than UGA last season.
The big reason for the increase for the Dawgs was a rise in contributions. The Dawgs brought in just under $55 million last season from donors, which is $22 million more than the previous year. That number still pales in comparison to Texas A&M who continue to bring in an insane amount of donor dollars. The Aggies raked in $93 million in a single season.
Next: 65 days to go until football!
Dawg fans can also still feel pretty good about UGA ticket prices. The Dawgs brought in $28 million in ticket sales for their highest year ever. However, this was still more than 1/3rd less than Alabama, Texas A&M and LSU. Yes, Sanford stadium doesn’t quite have as many seats as those stadiums, but there’s no doubt that UGA remains more affordable for fans than a lot of current NCAA powerhouses.
