Georgia Football commits show out at Nike’s The Opening
This past weekend was Nike’s showcase ‘The Opening’ event and the Georgia Football team had several commits who showed out.
Every year, Nike brings its biggest high school showcase to Oregon. The Opening is their biggest event for high school players, but this year, they are doing it in Texas. The sportswear giant has commandeered AT&T Stadium and so over a hundred of the nations top players are now enjoying an NFL facility. Within that group are four Georgia Football commits and several others who could end up in Athens.
The top recruiting experts are all in town to watch this showcase. Jeff Sentell from Dawgnation and Kipp Adams of 247sports are both in town as well to keep Dawg fans updated. Nolan Smith, Jadon Haselwood and Dominick Blaylock are Georgia’s 3 5-star commits. All of them are explosive athletes but Smith showed that he might be the best this weekend. He won the award for best testing scores, beating out favorite and Auburn commit Owen Pappoe:
Of course, the other players are not going to be outdone. Haselwood put together some good stats of his own. He also showed that he’s pretty damn good at catching the ball:
Blaylock is a different receiver than Haselwood. He doesn’t have the same size and physicality, but boy is he smooth. Watching him run routes, he kind of just glides across the field. That probably explains why he’s so good at this agility shuttle.
Last but not least is Ryan Goede, the forgotten man of this UGA commit group. Goede is a heck of an athlete for the tight end position, hence his appearance here. Like Blaylock, he doesn’t generate a lot of buzz because he’s basically done with recruiting and has shut it down. Still, the guy can ball.
There should be a lot more highlights coming over the next week or so. Lots of UGA targets such as Travon Walker, Rian Davis, and Nakobe Dean are in town as well. I’m sure the likes of Smith and Blaylock will be working hard to try and bring those guys to Athens. We’ll keep you updated if anything big happens in Texas.
