4. SEC Smothered & Covered
We’ll start with one that isn’t just a bulldog podcast. Barrett Sallee has what I personally think is the best SEC podcast out there at the moment. He doesn’t just talk about Alabama and Georgia and I like that. He’ll do some deep dives every now and then into the likes of Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Some might find that annoying, but not me. I’m a football junkie and I want to know whats going on with our rivals.
Being at CBS Sports, Sallee is plugged into the industry so you’ll certainly find out a few things you don’t hear elsewhere. Also, whether he’d like to admit it or not, Sallee does have a little soft spot for UGA. He picked them to win the SEC back before last season began and lose in the national championship game. Granted he thought it would be USC who would win, but still, name me another expert who saw 2017 coming.
He also tackles a lot of subjects other hosts just don’t think about. He recently did a whole segment about what Mike Leach would look like as a head coach in the SEC. We’ve heard plenty of commentators scoff at that idea. However, none of them have ever really explained why Leach probably isn’t a fit in the South East other than hinting ‘he’s just a different guy’. Sallee tends to be a bit for forthcoming about these sorts of things and you can learn a good deal about the in’s and outs of SEC football.
Sallee hosts this podcast once a week and during the season, it’s almost always released on Sunday night. Just in time for you to download it and listen on your way to work. He always has one titled sponsor each podcast, but he’s not loaded up with adverts.
