Georgia football great and current New Orleans tight end Ben Watson is hosting a Dr. Suess book reading in New Orleans on July 21.
Former Georgia football tight end Benjamin Watson has always been known for showing tremendous character off the field. Next Saturday, Watson will put on a show for children in New Orléans.
At 11:30 a.m. on July 21, as part of Carnival Cruise Line’s exclusive partnership with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Watson is hosting a book reading to over 100 children. The children come from various local youth organizations. Watson will even wear the Dr. Seuss red and white striped hat as he reads Horton Hears a Who inside a bright, over-sized tent at the Port of New Orléans, similar to one you’d see in a Seuss book.
Watson continues to outdo himself away from the game. He’s constantly in the news for all of the right reasons whether it’s for a book reading for children or through his One More foundation. He’s a three-time candidate of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award. Watson is yet to claim the award, but he certainly deserves it.
Of course, Watson is a star on the field as well. Georgia fans know him as a great tight end catching passes from David Greene in 2002 and 2003. He ended his UGA career with 852 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
The New England patriots drafted Watson 32nd overall in 2004. He’s since spent 13 seasons in the league, racking up 5,485 receiving yards and 42 touchdowns. His amazing off the field persona matches his high level play this late into his career.

Everywhere he’s gone in the NFL, from New England to New Orléans, with stops in Cleveland and Baltimore in between, he’s known as one the best men in the league. Owners respect his activities in the communities. Coaches love his presence in the locker room. And fans love him for being a role model.
