Georgia Football can think itself lucky to have a commitment from Nolan Smith II who was recently named the top player in the country in the 2019 class.

Ever since committing to Georgia more than 18 months ago, Nolan Smith II has been on the rise. The defensive end/OLB from Savannah spent last season at the famous IMG Academy in Florida. There, he has been working with some of the nations best high school coaches. It looks like all that training has paid off and Smith is very much an ascending player.

247Sports named Smith as their number one player in the 2019 class. What seems to have led to his rise up the ranks is how much better he is getting at IMG. In the piece penned by Baton Simmons, he gave his reason for Smith overtaking previous number one Zach Harrison:

"We love Harrison but we came to the realization that Smith has enough freakish athleticism of his own with a 4.51 40 yard dash and a 42-inch vertical. But he also has none of the refinement concerns."

Kipp Adams, one of 247’s UGA reporters also had an interview with Smith. In it, he went into some details about some of the prospects that UGA are continuing to try and chase. Once again, Smith has put on his recruiters hat and seems to be doing lots of work. He’s pushing hard to try and make sure the 2019 class is another big one for Georgia.

All in all, the Dawgs can feel very lucky to have received a commitment from Smith. He’s been a fantastic cheerleader for the program and that’s before you add in the crazy talent that he possesses. I for one cannot wait to see this guy between the hedges in little over a year!
