Nothing like a good bit of denial for the Gators

Maybe I’m being salty here and maybe I’m just looking for an excuse to rip on the Gators. But damn, they didn’t half sound full of denial this week. Check out these statements from their three players who were a part of the 42-7 beatdown that we all witnessed last October:

"“That game, we let that one slip away,” David Reese II “That game was way closer than what the scoreboard put out last year,” Martez Ivey “ … that score doesn’t determine who’s the better team,” Cece Jefferson"

I’m pretty sure that when the opposing team puts in their backups for an entire quarter, that you were probably second best. But oh no, not for Florida. How could we forget their mighty touchdown drive against UGA’s second team defensive unit? That example of starters taking on backups clearly proves their point, right?

If only Georgia’s entire first team had sat out that game. Maybe if they had, the game would have actually been even. But alas, instead, they racked up a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and had locked the game up by halftime.

The irony of all of this is that before the game, it was the Gators who were doing the talking. They mocked Jake Fromm for being ‘only able to throw a slant’ and claimed that UGA ‘can’t ever beat Florida’. It seems that even getting the stuffing beaten out of them hasn’t taught them that talking trash isn’t always a good idea.

While I like the Mullen hire, to me, this is a worrying sign for the Gators. These were the 3 leaders that he had chosen to come to Atlanta and make specific statements. It shows either one of two things. Either the players lack the discipline to stick to his talking points, or he’s on board with this delusional rhetoric. Neither one is a good look for Mullen. His team got beaten down badly last season. If they can’t own it and move on, then that’s on them.
