Georgia Football won out against a bunch of it’s SEC rivals for the commitment of Travon Walker, one of only two 5-star defensive tackles in the 2019 class.

Phew, that was a big win! Georgia Football got some great news on Tuesday night when 5-star defensive tackle Travon Walker committed to staying in state and playing for UGA. This is a BIG win for Georgia, especially as it comes at a position where the Dawgs have had a few misses recently.

Walker was probably the highest priority left on the Dawgs board right now. A clear top 25 talent, Walker has the potential to be even better by the time signing day comes around. The 6ft5, 280lb player has the length and explosiveness to be a true wrecking ball up the middle for Georgia. If Tray Scott can help Walker reach his potential, we’re talking about a very special player.

It shouldn’t be underestimated how big of a win this is for Scott as well. While other position coaches have bee landing 5-stars on the regular, this is a first for him. This is the first 5-star commitment he’s had and it’s a player who could become a high first round draft pick. Scott has done great work with the likes of Tyler Clark over the past year. Now he has his own guy that he can potentially put in the NFL.

Next: Speaking of defensive linemen...

Walker’s commitment takes UGA to four 5-star players right now. They also move up the recruiting rankings into the top 5. They have at least 3 less players than every other team in front of them, which sums up the type of quality the dawgs have right now in their class. This year’s won’t quite have the depth of 20, but once again, it will be loaded with top players.
