Building trenches of doom

The thing that excites me most about Walkers commitment is that it is the beginning of something that I’ve been waiting for a while. The building of a defensive line that can rival what Sam Pittman has put together on the offensive side of the ball.

One of the selling points UGA has right now for defensive linemen is that O-line. If you want to get better, nothing helps more than taking on the best every single day in practice. Nobody has a more talented offensive line group right now that Georgia. Walker is going to get exponentially better because he’s going to have to fight it out with Jamaree Salyer and Trey Hill for at least his first 2 seasons.

That culture of competition is what Kirby Smart has focused on building. With Walker and Bill Norton now in the fold, UGA can continue to load up on the defensive line. Logue is a raw prospect but the tools are there. I’m sure they will find one more player to add in 2019.

Then we get to the 2020 class and things get really interesting. Unlike 2019, that year is looking better with interior DL in the state of Georgia. UGA already has a commitment from one, Nazir Stackhouse. It may also get a second when Jamil Burroughs commits later this month.

In short, our defensive line recruiting looks like it’s starting to catch up with what Sam Pittman has built on the offensive side of the ball. That is going to lead to some very hard-nosed and nasty football being played by the Bulldogs over the next few years. And boy will it be fun to watch.
