Kirby Smart hasn’t recruited many JUCO players to the Georgia Football team since he arrived. He’s got his eye on 3 in the 2019 class.

Since arriving in Athens, nobody has recruited better than Kirby Smart. The Georgia Football Head Coach has brought in two of the best classes UGA have seen in a long time the past couple of years. He’s looking to make it three years in a row right now and with four 5-stars committed, those odds look good.

There does look to be a bit of a difference with recruiting right now. After hardly touching the JUCO ranks the past three seasons, Smart and UGA are in the race right now for three highly regarded prospects. In 2016, Smart secured Javon Wims as his sole JUCO player. Wims went on to star in his second season and ended up getting drafted by the Chicago Bears just a few months ago.

In 2017, Smart again signed just one player from the JUCO ranks. Offensive Tackle D’Marcus Hayes came in and many (including myself) expected him to find a way on the field. Instead, he’s been recruited over several times and finds himself on the second unit right now.

In this year’s class, the Dawgs on JUCO player was Devonte Wyatt who was originally a part of the 2017 class. He needed to spend a semester at JUCO to improve his grades and arrived in Athens after the season.

They are expected to do the same with Tramel Walthour this year and possibly Nadab Joseph. Both were expected to enroll this summer but grade issues kept them out. Of the two, Walthour is the one most likely to arrive in Athens in the 2019 class. Joseph might have to spend a full two seasons in the JUCO ranks.

So who are the 3 players that Georgia is pushing for from the junior college ranks right now? It starts with a guy you can currently see a little bit of on a show you might have heard of, ‘Last Chance U.’
