Makiya Tongue, Athlete

There are a lot of things that Makiya Tongue can do on a football field. The son of a former NFL player, there is a reason that he’s listed as an athlete by the recruiting websites. There are so many potential spots that he can fill on a football field and by the sounds of it, UGA has talked about that. His versatility is what attracted Kirby Smart to him as a prospect. When he finds his fit as a player, he’s going to be a good one.

By the sounds of it, Tongue will start out at wide receiver. The physical way that he plays the game will work well with what Kirby Smart wants to do. Not only is he a big kid who can go up and grab the ball, Tongue is also a tremendous blocker. His experience on defense has given him the edge that you need to have to want to hit people. That’s obvious to see when you watch his film.

Jadon Haselwood is the same way. Tongue is a different type of player than Haselwood. There is a reason that the Georgia product is rated as the top receiver in the country and one of the best to come out of high school in years. Tongue doesn’t have the smooth route running ability or the natural instincts for the position. However, he can provide a physical presence alongside Haselwood. The two of them would be absolute menaces in the run blocking game on the edges.

If that doesn’t work out for him, he can always try defense. I quite like the idea of him playing safety, particularly around the line of scrimmage. No matter where he ends up, the fact is that Tongue is going to make an impact in Athens. It’ll be fascinating to see where that impact is.
