Georgia football currently has the no. 2 recruiting class for 2019 according to 247 Sports. Thanks to the current situation at Ohio State, the Dawgs may be in line to add a few more to the next class.

We already know that Georgia football coach Kirby Smart is a recruiting genius. He flips recruits, keeps them inside of the state of Georgia. More importantly, him and his staff have elevated Georgia’s recruiting from hanging around the top-10 to competing for the no. 1 class every year.

So you know that with Urban Meyer’s impending firing or resignation at Ohio State, Smart is chomping at the bits to poach from the 2019 Ohio State recruiting class. There are three top prospects that I’m certain that Smart will go after that he should be able to steal from the Buckeyes.

Steele Chambers – Athlete – Blessed Trinity

Meyer has grabbed two recruits from Georgia so far. Smart will certainly look to change that in the next few weeks. One of those prospects is an athlete from Blessed Trinity in Roswell, Steele Chambers. 247 Sports Composite rates him as a four-star prospect. They rank him as the no. 26 player in Georgia and the no. 240 player nationally.

Georgia offered a scholarship to Chambers on February 15, but he committed to Ohio State on April 18. Dell McGee did most of the recruiting.

Chambers played a huge role in Blessed Trinity’s 2017 4A State Championship and their 2016 Elite Eight team. On offense he plays running back and his 6’2, 215-pound frame has been difficult to deal with. He rushed for 1,545 yards with 26 touchdowns last season, and 1,486 yards with 21 touchdowns as a sophomore.

On defense, he made 70 tackles in each of the last two seasons. Last year he became more of a force in the backfield on defense with six tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks. As sophomore in 2016, he intercepted four passes. And it’s not like he’s tearing up a weak region. Region 7-AAAA was a stout region in 2017. Thee teams of the five in the region ended the regular season with at least seven wins. They add Flowery Branch and the new Denmark High School (Alpharetta) this season.

Georgia is Running Back U, and watching him play on offense, it looks like Chambers would fit right in at UGA. But he would also be a valuable addition to the defensive backfield. He seems perfect for the star position with his tackling, pass coverage and pass rushing abilities.

Jordan Battle – Safety – St. Thomas Aquinas

Safety Jordan Battle, no relation to former UGA safety Tra Battle, could be a major score for the 2019 class if Smart can flip him. 247 Sports Composite gives Battle four stars and ranks him no. 22 in Florida and no. 162 nationally. He’s also the no. 12 safety in America.

Battle was a force for St. Thomas Aquinas last season with 55 tackles and four interceptions with one touchdown. He helped lead them all the way to the 7A Florida State semi-finals. Battle helped Aquinas’ defense pitch five shutouts in 2017.

Mel Tucker recruited Battle, and Georgia offered him a scholarship all the way back on October 15, 2017. Only 11 teams offered him a scholarship before Georgia. But only four of those teams are conference championship contenders in major conference.

With a second chance presenting itself, Smart and Tucker may crank up their recruiting of Battle. He’s also high on Miami according to 247 Sports. But Georgia can still hop in there and give him second thoughts on the Hurricanes.

Harry Miller – Center – Buford

The player Smart most likely contacted first is Buford’s center Harry Miller. He’s the no. 2 player on Ohio State’s 2019 class. 247 Sports Composite gives him four stars and ranks him as the no. 8 player in Georgia, no. 2 center nationally and as the no. 36 player in America.

Miller was the anchor on an offensive line that dominated Region 8-AAAAA in 2017. The Wolves averaged 41.15 points per game last season with Miller leading the way at center.

Sam Pittman pursued the 6’4, 300-pound haus. Georgia offered him a scholarship on June 14, 2017 and he took two visits to Georgia after that. But he committed to Ohio State on June 10 of this year.

Pittman and the Dawgs are building one of the largest and deepest walls in college football. Miller would be a great addition. Georgia already has two highly sought-after offensive linemen in the 2019 class. Miller would be a great final piece to that puzzle.

Next. Meyer situation is no surprise to Georgia fans. dark

I would be shocked if Smart isn’t able to flip at least one current Ohio State committed. With Urban Meyer likely leaving, a lot of committs will likely find other schools to attend. Even if Meyer is still at Ohio State, several players might leave just to stay away from what appears like a toxic program. Smart is a great recruiter and he’s now presented with a mulligan on some of the top players in America. I’m sure he won’t waste it.
