2019 might be even better:
As you can see, UGA is already loaded at OLB. I count six players who were all top 200 players in the nation including two 5-stars. That’s a whole lot of talent and it’s young as well. With the exception of Walker, only Walker Grant has burned any eligibility in Athens.
But that’s not really enough for Kirby Smart. Never one to rest on his laurels, Smart has been recruiting the position group just as hard in 2019 and he’s now landed his guys. And boy, what players he’s bringing in.
What can I really say about Nolan Smith that hasn’t already been said? The guy is considered to be a top 3 player in this class for a reason. Many (including myself) think that he’s the top guy period this year and it’s easy to see why. He’s got absolutely everything scouts are looking for. He’s already 240lbs and put up insane athletic numbers at the recent Opening camp. Add in a relentless work ethic, the natural ability to be draw players to him and you’re looking at someone who could be a legend at Georgia.
Jermaine Johnson is the top JUCO player in the country and when you watch his film, that makes sense. He’s a physical freak and it’s incredible that he was ignored by every college when he was in high school. He’ll arrive in December, giving him a full 9 months to get acclimated to the program before the 2019 season.
Both of these guys are going to come in and seriously challenge for jobs. I get how talented the rest of the position group will be, but Smith and Johnson are special. Both of them are going to find a way onto the field from day one. No matter what, that’s just going to happen.
