There might be some Georgia Football players who aren’t working their hardest right now, but they definitely do not play quarterback.

When Kirby Smart made his comments about some players not playing to their potential the other day, it got me thinking about leaders. Does this 2018 team have the guys who are going to step up an pull their teammates with them? Are there players here that are willing to go the extra mile to win it all?

One position group is really standing out to me at the moment and it’s the quarterbacks. While most of the news media is focused on a ‘QB controversy’ that doesn’t really exist, they are missing perhaps the biggest takeaway from UGA’s young signal callers. Both of these guys are earning rave reviews from every player that speaks about them because they are both working their tail off. Right now, two of the youngest players on the team are behaving like leaders.

When it comes to Jake Fromm, that isn’t surprising. It was clear when he arrived that he brings leadership to the table. As a true freshman he rallied a team behind him and played really well in key situations. Going in to his sophomore season, it’s not surprising to see him take a step up and be a key guy in the locker room. However, what’s really encouraging is what is happening with the freshman that has come in to challenge him.

Nobody thinks that Justin Fields is going to start on day 1. Probably not even Fields himself. However, the way that he has come in an worked hard and pushed Fromm has been incredibly impressive. Every report I see makes it clear that he’s legitimately challenging Fromm every single practice.

The battle that is going on right now between these two will rub off on others. How can a wide receiver take a few plays off when his QB’s are desperately fighting just to get one more rep? If the QB that led his team to overtime in the Natty last year is in danger of losing his job, you better believe that nobody is safe.

When the season comes around, we’ll know what the coaches really have in store for Fields and how this is all going to play out. But until then, it’s safe to say that UGA looks set for a while at the games most important position. Not only does it boast two highly talented players. It also has two guys working their tail off to get better every day and set the standard for this program going forward.

Next. Two freshmen that could start this season. dark

That’s the story that everyone should be talking about right now. This sort of attitude and dedication is rare from teenagers and it’s why I’m not worried about the ‘leadership’ question many are asking of Georgia. When you have two guys like this, chances are that everything is going to work out just fine.
