Building the rotation:

One of the most important things that UGA needs in 2018 is a rotation for their DL. Yes, those three starters that I mentioned are very important and I expect all of them to play a lot. However, what really makes a defensive line great is their ability to stay fresh and go after offensive lines every single play. To do that, they need solid depth that allows them to constantly sub players in and keep everyone fresh.

There is a fear among many that UGA does not quite have the depth that it needs this year. John Atkins and Trenton Thompson were both important parts of the rotation last season so they will be missed. However, Georgia does have several returning pieces that look ready to contribute in 2018.

DaQuan Hawkins-Muckle is a player that many in Georgia expect to take a step up this year. He’s had his moments in the past, but in his senior season, he should be more of a factor than before. Jay Hayes is another player that will be very important for the Dawgs. He’s got the ability to play both the 5 and the 3 technique depending on the formation. That’s going to be invaluable and fans should expect for him to almost be a 4th starter.

Last but not least is David Marshall who has been a contributor in both of his seasons since arriving at Georgia. Much like Hayes, Marshall is a tweener who can play inside at times but often thrives when he’s rushing the passer from the end position. Look for him again to get reps in key moments and for him to continue making an impact.
