After a great career with the Georgia Bulldogs, hopes were high for Isaiah Wynn in New England. Unfortunately, the Patriots first round pick will now miss the 2018 season with a torn Achilles.

It’s never nice to see a Georgia Bulldogs great go down injured. That happened last night when Isaiah Wynn, one of the stars of the 2017 UGA season was carted off in his first preseason NFL game. Reports that are coming out of New England suggest that Wynn has torn his Achilles which will keep him off the field for the entire of the 2018 season.

It’s a bow for the Patriots and a blow for Wynn. Having started as a left tackle at UGA, he was expected by many scouts to be moved inside to guard at the NFL level. His 6ft2 frame is a lot shorter than the average tackle that plays on Sundays. But the Patriots seemed to always have him penciled in on the outside of their line. even when he was drafted, the Pats announced him as a tackle. With their started LT Nate Solder moving on in the offseason, Wynn was seen as the long-term replacement for that position.

Now he’ll have to wait until next season. It’s a devastating injury for a player who played dinged up last season but was still lights out. The Patriots also selected UGA running back Sony Michel in the first round but he too has been battling some injuries. He is yet to get on to the field this preseason and recently had his knee drained.

dark. Next. Ending the QB narrative

It’s been a rough start to their careers for both of these former UGA greats. However, both of them should be able to show what they are capable of once they are healed and back on the field. Both were senior leaders for the Bulldogs and can likely be counted on when they are healthy. It just looks like we’ll have to wait until next year to see Sony run behind an Isaiah Wynn block.
