A lot of sports writers are keep suggesting that there is a QB controversy on this Georgia Football team. Just to be clear, there is not.

I get that writers want to get hits these days. It’s a crowded marketplace out there when it comes to content and so sometimes, you look for controversy where there isn’t any. How else can you explain the ridiculous John Emery situation from last week? However, despite that the likes of ESPN say, there isn’t a quarterback controversy going on in Athens right now. This Georgia Football team is actually rather boring and settled.

Writers need to stop comparing UGA to Alabama and Clemson in the QB department. All three of these schools have very different situations. There is no Jalen Hurts/Tua Tagovailoa going on between Jake Fromm and Justin Fields right now. There’s even less similarity to whats going on in Clemson, where Kelly Bryant has done nothing to establish himself as a starter. To write like there is completely ignores the differences between the players and the situations at each team.

Jake Fromm is better than both Hurts and Bryant. As a true freshman, he was one of the most efficient passers in the entire nation and he’s only going to get better. Hurts did a terrific job leading his team to the National Championship games two years in a row. But the guy cannot throw the ball. He can’t beat teams with his arm and Georgia exposed that as well as anyone last season. Bryant had similar issues so it’s crazy that people keep comparing Fromm to both players.

Fromm showed last year on the biggest stage that he could win games through the air. Justin Fields is a generational talent who by all the reports is going to be special, but he’s a true freshman right now. He has a lot to learn and while he’ll get a crash course during the season unless there’s an injury, Fields will not win the starting job.

That doesn’t mean he won’t see the field and make an impact. I expect Fields to get a lot of reps throughout the season, both in blowouts and in certain packages. But Fromm is so much better than Hurts and Bryant it’s ridiculous to compare the situations.

Next. You win some and lose some in SEC Recruiting. dark

That doesn’t mean he won’t have to fight for his job every week. Kirby Smart loves competition and he’ll be encouraging Fields to push Fromm every single day. But in the end, there isn’t a controversy going on at Georgia and it shouldn’t be mentioned in the same breathe as those two other schools. There are two really good QB’s on the team right now and both are going to see the field. It’s really not that hard to figure out, to be honest.
