They can’t win the big one:
This is my favorite one of the bunch because it’s clearly the most delusional. Last season, lots of schools kept telling players not to go to Georgia because the Dawgs couldn’t win. With the Dawgs coming back with an SEC title, a Rose Bowl and a narrow loss in the National Championship under their belts, this is by far the most ridiculous narrative that a coach can use.
And yet use it they do. It always amuses me how rival fanbases can simultaneously complain that Georgia is cheating in recruiting, yet can’t develop players and will somehow still suck. If that was really the case, why would anybody care that UGA is getting good recruits? Oh what’s that, their coaches are actually good at their jobs? Right, yes, that does seem to be a bit of a problem.
The Dawgs didn’t catch other teams by surprise last season. Maybe nobody expected Jake Fromm to be this good, but other than that, Georgia was exactly as advertised. They ran the ball a lot with their two running backs and played great defense. It wasn’t like they won games by chance, luck or trick plays. They ran the same plays time and time again and nobody could stop them. In short, they were a damn good football team.
Yes, they lost the natty, but the Dawgs showed that the Mark Richt years are over. Anybody who is trying to sell recruits on a belief that UGA will suddenly lose games they should win again is going to look just as foolish as the ones who last year told those same recruits Georgia would go 8-4. So by all means, keep using this narrative as well rivals. We’ll just keep on beating everyone that’s put in front of us and we’ll see how your stories look come signing day.
