Georgia football 2018 running back signee Zamir White tore is ACL in a scrimmage on Saturday. He tore the ACL in his other leg just nine months ago.

Georgia football will be without the no. 1 running back recruit in the nation this season. Zamir White tore the ACL in his left knee while covering a punt in a scrimmage on Saturday. The Athletic’s Seth Emerson was the first to confirm the injury.

The injury didn’t come on a hit and White was able to limp off the field on his own. MRI did reveal that he tore his ACL. Obviously an injury this severe is season ending. This is the second such injury suffered by White in less than a year. He tore the ACL in his right knee last season while in high school.

Reports about White were promising early this month. He had been cleared to practice and was performing well according to head coach Kirby Smart and the media who got to watch the team.

While you have to feel bad for White, who had to be excited to start his college football career this year after making a great and fast recovery, Georgia fans can take solace in knowing that the team has wealth at the running back position.

D’Andre Swift accumulated a ton of yards as a third string running back last year. Smart has told media that he loves watching James Cook play. And Elijah Holyfield and Brian Herrien have produced very well as backups in their first two seasons.

Georgia as a team should be fine for a couple of years. Now White needs to show his fighting spirit again in his second rehab. Nine months was already a quick rehab for an ACL tear, hopefully White can repeat that with a second ACL tear.

The good news for White is that tearing the ACL now means he has plenty of time to rehab and rest. If he can gain clearance to play, he might be ready for the 2019 G-Day Game. Though I doubt he’ll actually play. He could then spend all of next summer by not placing too much stress on a healed up ACL.

In the meantime, he can find other ways to stay in shape and he can throughly study the play book. With the right rehab and a good attitude, White can enter his redshirt freshman season next season in the best shape of his life with a keen and unmatched knowledge of Georgia’s playbook.
