Georgia Football lost a talented player in Zamir White for the season thanks to a torn ACL, but both current and former Dawgs are rallying around their guy.
After a very sad day for college football, let’s talk about something positive, shall we! The rehabilitation seems to have begun for Zamir White who suffered a second ACL tear on Saturday. While fans are devastated about not seeing him play this year, their pain is nothing compared to what White himself is going through right now. Fortunately, the Georgia Football program seems to be rallying behind their guy.
Kirby Smart told the press yesterday that not only is the team keeping his spirits up but that several former UGA greats have reached out and spoken to him personally. White is still going to meetings and spending time with his teammates. While he can no longer participate on the field, he’s still very much a part of the 2018 team. Smart told reporters that his spirits remain high.
He also informed them that Nick Chubb, Todd Gurley, and Malcolm Mitchell have all reached out to him. Chubb and Gurley will forever be remembered as Georgia greats at running back and Zeus is seen by many as an heir to their position. Both overcame bad knee injuries and are back to playing fantasy football. Their words will surely help White and it’s great to see them reach out.
Mitchell was actually in Athens yesterday and so spoke to White face to face. He’s been troubled by knee issues since 2013, but was able to overcome them and turn himself into a successful player at UGA and 4th round draft pick. Mitchell was key to the New England Patriots winning the Super Bowl two years ago and while he was recently cut by the team, he’s shown that even a bad ACL tear doesn’t have to end your career.
It’s good to see the program doing the right thing by White. He remains an incredible talent who could one day be that next great UGA running back. He now has to work to get back to the player that many thought that he could be, but fortunately he knows that he’s not going to have to do it alone.
