Georgia Football continued to build its 2020 recruiting class this weekend when highly regarded DT Jamil Burroughs committed to UGA.

I’ll say this for Kirby Smart, the man likes to think ahead. While many others are still very focused on their 2019 recruiting class, the Georgia Football head coach has been putting in some work on the class after that for a while. Today, he received a commitment from defensive tackle Jamil Burroughs, a very talented player who should really fit the bill in Athens.

Standing at just under 6ft3 and over 300lbs already, Burroughs is a natural defensive tackle. He’s a player that can really do it all in the middle of the defensive line. With his natural size, he can eat up blocks and stuff the run but he also possesses natural pass rushing ability. He’s going to be a versatile weapon across the DL for Tray Scott going forward.

Burroughs is one of the most exciting juniors in the Georgia high school system right now. He joins fellow defensive tackle Nazir Stackhouse and offensive tackle Broderick Jones. All three of these players are massive humans as Kirby Smart and his coaches continue to look for elite players of the offensive and defensive lines.

It’s still very early in the cycle but each of these is big wins. The Dawgs are looking to get bigger and more physical on the defensive line and Burroughs and Stackhouse certainly bring that. Jones has the potential to be an elite left tackle. All of these players could well end up seeing their rankings rise over the next couple of season. Burroughs and Jones, in particular, look like potential 5-star players to me.

Another good thing about Burroughs is that he looks like a player who is ready to shut it down. Dawgnation’s Jeff Sentell wrote a report on his commitment where he talks about how much Burroughs loves the school. It doesn’t look like he’ll be getting his head turned any time soon and that’s another big win for Kirby Smart and the Dawgs. I’ll be putting up a breakdown of his film tomorrow so make sure to check it out.
