2018 Georgia Football Season Predictions
Projected regular season record:
Alistair:
Despite the success of last season and the schedule, I just can’t bring myself to predict the Dawgs to go undefeated. I wish I could, but we saw with Bama and Clemson last year how difficult it is to do that in a true power conference. I for one think that LSU might be better than people expect and that away game is going to be incredibly difficult. I cannot, however, see the dawgs losing more than one game which is why I’m predicting an 11-1 record and winning the SEC East. Then it’s a ‘win and you’re in’ scenario in Atlanta for the CFP and we’ll just have to see how both teams look before predicting that one.
Davis:
Call me crazy, but I think Georgia has an excellent chance to run the table and finish 12-0 heading into the SEC championship game in December. South Carolina and Auburn are the biggest threats to that goal but Georgia has a clear talent advantage over South Carolina and has the luxury of playing Auburn in Athens this season.
Based on how Kirby Smart has changed this football program, it’s not insane to truly think Georgia has the chance to be in the College Football Playoff every single season for the foreseeable future. Going undefeated in the regular season will give the Dawgs an excellent chance to possible get revenge against Alabama in the SEC championship game which would undoubtedly send the team to the playoffs for the second straight year. Buckle up, Dawg fans. 2018 is going to be special.
Kyle:
11-1 is a safe prediction. The team is good enough to finish 12-0, the schedule is tough enough to finish 8-4. But this is a new era in Athens. Kirby Smart will not stand for 8-4 or 9-3 with this talent. Anything short of 10 wins and an SEC East Championship will be considered a failure.
I think that one loss will come to LSU. It’s at Baton Rouge, likely at night. The mix of their talent and the environment that LSU fans create, you can never expect to leave Louisiana with a win. You have to fight for it. They always beat a few teams at home who are probably better than them. Les Miles famously called Death Valley the place where dreams go to die.
Well, Georgia’s dreams aren’t dying there. Even with a loss, the Dawgs will bounce back and win out to claim the SEC East.
Mike:
11-1. With a schedule that isn’t brutal combined with a returning quarterback and a really good coaching staff in its 3rd year, I can see a repeat of the 2017 regular season record. Early SEC East games on the road against South Carolina and Missouri will prove to be a challenge but both should be wins. Auburn will be tough, but it’s in Athens and I trust our coaching staff more than theirs at our place. That LSU game is the one that sticks out to me. I know on paper we should be better than them. There are a lot of unknowns on the bayou. How will Ohio State transfer Joe Burrow do in the SEC? Can Ed Orgeron get LSU back to being competitive on a national level?
We more than likely aren’t going 12-0. I hope I’m wrong, but that usually doesn’t happen in the SEC anymore. I look at the schedule and with the hostile environment, it being an SEC West opponent that still has some explosive players on both sides of the ball (including one of the best defensive players in the nation, Greedy Williams) and a team that may be playing for their coach’s job and a loss here wouldn’t be as big of a shock to me as it would to some.
