Every week, we’ll be having a look at what Georgia Football players need to step up for the Dawgs to shine. We start of course, with the Austin Peay Governors.

When the Dawgs take on Austin Peay on Saturday, it will be their first football game since the heartbreak of the National Championship. Safe to say a lot of Georgia Football fans are ready to get that nasty taste out of their mouths.

Now, this 2018 team is going to be different to last year. Against Austin Peay, there is a good chance that we will get to see a glimpse of what the future of UGA looks like. While we’ll see lots of the likes of Jake Fromm, there are other players that it will be exciting to see. So here are the 5 players for fans to keep an eye out for this week.

Richard LeCounte III:

Not many players are going to be as important this season as Richard LeCounte. While He’s not going to be going up against top-flight receivers this week, his ability to command the center field is going to be crucial to Georgia is 2018.

Every scrimmage suggests that LeCounte is going to be a starter this season. This game will be the first that the Dawgs play without Dominick Sanders for pretty much 4 years. LeCounte has a tremendous amount of talent but he’s going to have a high standard to live up to. While he might have been a part of blowing a coverage in the Natty, Sanders played at a high level in Athens. There’s a reason he left with 16 interceptions.

How LeCounte handles his new role will dictate a lot about how good this defense is. If he can master the center of the field and make plays on the ball, then the Dawgs will be hard to throw on. With SEC play starting in week 2, that’s certainly a good place to start.
