Georgia Football: Dawgs to watch against Austin Peay
Justin Fields:
Yes, I went there. I’m not saying that Justin Fields is going to start. I’m not saying that in any way that he’s going to beat out Jake Fromm. However, this is a big opportunity for Fields to get accustomed to College Football.
If everything goes to plan, Fromm and the first team offense should pile up points in the first half. If they do then the Dawgs should have plenty of time to bring in their young players and get them experience. Nobody needs that experience more than Fields who is just one play away from being the teams QB this season. That means that he needs reps, particularly in the passing game and against live competition.
Fields should get plenty of snaps. We’ll finally get to see how his laser arm and 4.5 speed fit into the offense that Georgia is looking to run. I doubt that we’re going to see any designed runs with him. Instead, I expect that the coaching staff will look to get him plenty of chance to use his arm. Those are the reps that he needs and they also present the least opportunity for him to get injured.
That being said, if a play breaks down and Fields needs to scramble, we’ll get to see just how athletic he is. That’s something we saw him attempt several times at G-day and it should be really fun to see him finally get to fully play without a quick whistle.
