Georgia Football: Dawgs to watch against Austin Peay
D’Andre Walker:
Speaking of keys to the defense, there aren’t many players who have as much pressure on them as D’Andre Walker. Towards the end of last season, he finally started to put all of his talents together on the field and became a legit pass rushing threat. Now he goes into his senior year as the player many expect to step up and become the Dawgs top QB hunter.
He is going to have to impress because the Dawgs have young talent galore behind him. Brenton Cox, Robert Beal, and Adam Anderson will all be chomping at the bit to get on the field this season. Walker showed last year that he could be the best pass rusher UGA has had since Jarvis Jones. He’s going to need to be to keep those guys off the field.
Georgia needs to be able to rush the passer this year. With a lot of question marks across the defense, Walker needs to show that he is not going to be one of them. Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker will be expecting him to step up his play and show the rest of the team that he’s going to be a leader on the field this season. Putting in a good performance again Austin Peay is going to be important for him.
If Walker can get to the QB and show discipline with his assignments, the Dawgs should be in good shape this year. If not, they will likely be leaning on even more young freshmen to play on a group that is already lacking upperclassmen. The Dawgs need Walker to step up and make sure that doesn’t happen.
