With Georgia Football taking on Austin Peay this Saturday, we take a quick look at the Governors and what we can expect from them this weekend.

With the game just two days away, it’s time to take a quick look at at this week’s opponent. There isn’t much doubt that the Georgia Football team are supposed to win this week. They are taking on a program that before last season was essentially on a 2-year losing streak. But a new head coach has turned the Austin Peay program around and they are now expected to challenge for the Ohio Valley conference. Here’s a bit more information about the Governors.

Strengths

Austin Peay likes to run the ball. They run a similar system to what UGA see each year from Georgia Tech and it is unlikely that their QB Jeremiah Oatsvall throws the ball very much having only done so 141 times last year. Much like Tech, Oatsvall ran almost as much as he threw it back in 2017.

The problem for the Governors is that they are missing a key part of their running game. Kendall Williams is the ‘lightning’ in their running back room. Much like the Bulldogs, Austin Peay runs a multiple back system and they try and keep rotating their backs. Williams was their version of Sony Michel last year, accounting for 4TDs and over 800 yards out of the backfield. He was explosive and went for over 7 yards per touch which could have really troubled Georgia.

Williams has been suspended for the UGA game due to a violation of team rules. I don’t know exactly what that means, but I do know that it’s going to make the Governor’s life a lot more difficult. Running the ball remains their biggest strength but I’m not sure how they are going to excel at it without one of their best running backs.
