Weaknesses
Unsurprisingly, the Governors are not a particularly stout unit on defense. This is a team that allowed UCF to put up 73 points on them last season. Now I know that the Knights like to pretend that they were national champions last year. But I mean come on, nobody should be putting up that many points on you.
McKenzie Milton went bananas against the Governors, missing only 2 of 26 passes and throwing for 3 TDs. This is the same guy who couldn’t complete half of his attempts against Auburn in the Peach Bowl even if the Tigers did somehow blow that game. The Knights also accounted for 5 TD’s on the ground that game. That’s a whole lot of running over a defensive line.
In short, the Governors defense is not good. Georgia should be able to exploit that and put up plenty of points particularly when the first team offense is in. Yes, the Dawgs will likely be missing Terry Godwin, but it’s hard to imagine players like Riley Ridley and Mecole Hardman won’t beat their CB’s this week. It’s even harder to imagine that D’Andre Swift isn’t going to run absolutely wild when he touches the ball.
The Dawgs should be able to run all over the Governors. Their offensive line has so much size and strength that it’s hard to see them not chewing up yards on the ground. I personally think that this game is tailor-made for Elijah Holyfield and Brian Herrien. Both of them will have an opportunity to really show that they deserve playing time in future games.
