Each week, Dawn of the Dawg will release a score prediction for the Georgia Football team’s upcoming game.

Georgia Football is finally back. After a long offseason, the Dawgs are ready to move past last season’s heartbreaking finale against Alabama and start a new season.

Georgia opens up the 2018 season against Austin Peay, an FCS team from the Ohio Valley Conference. Austin Peay finished 2017 with a respectable 8-4 record. The Governors have completely turned around their program since the arrival of head coach Will Healy. After being a perennial loser, they are now considered a favorite for the Ohio Valley conference in 2018.

Although Coach Kirby Smart consistently preaches that all games on the schedule are significant no matter who the opponent is, this game against Austin Peay is clearly a tune-up for the Dawgs’ game against South Carolina next week.

This game will give the fans the first opportunity to see how Georgia’s lineups look with several new faces in meaningful roles on both sides of the ball. The Dawgs are having to replace several key defensive starters from last year’s team, most notably linebacker Roquan Smith.

Perhaps playing an opponent like Austin Peay is good for Georgia in the first week of the season because it gives the coaching staff more opportunities to adjust the rotations and lineups during the game without risking a loss. A lot of fans are going to be excited about seeing some of the new talent Georgia welcomed to Athens this offseason. With a weak team, there is a good chance we get to see the like of Justin Fields, Tyson Campbell, and Brenton Cox.

The real fun for Georgia will begin next week when the team travels to South Carolina to begin SEC play. But for now, Georgia fans should just sit back and enjoy this weekend as the Dawgs will get a nice win against Austin Peay. I expect the first team offense to click, put up plenty of points and then the reserves come in early in the 3rd quarter. Look for Justin Fields to get his first TD as a Georgia Bulldog as well.
