The Georgia Football team won its first game of the season against Austin Peay. Here are five quick takeaways from the offense in that 45-0 victory.

1: D-Rob is going to be a difference maker

Demetris Robertson didn’t have a single catch in his first game as a Georgia Bulldog. In fact, going back and watching the game again, I can’t remember seeing the Dawgs even look to throw the ball in his direction. But with one handoff from Justin Fields, Robertson showed what all of the hype was about when he chose to come to Georgia in July.

His 72-yard end around run showcased true blazing speed and the sort of home run ability that fans were hoping for. That’s the kind of physical ability that is just so rare. I know that the Dawgs were taking on a lower level program, but it’s hard to see how any cornerback catches Robertson on that sort of play. If he’s able to get into space, he’s going to be incredibly difficult to stop.

It’s worth pointing out that Robertson was not starting yesterday. Despite Terry Godwin being injured, it wasn’t D’Rob that was running with the first team unit. Tyler Simmons got the start and played quite a lot more snaps than Robertson.

In his press conference, Kirby Smart mentioned that Robertson still had quite a bit of work to do on his conditioning and fitness. Robertson didn’t arrive at UGA until about 5 weeks ago and he missed all of last year. He isn’t at the same fitness level as everyone else in the program. That probably means that we don’t see too much of him over the next few weeks as he works up to building his fitness.

But the Dawgs will find ways to get the ball in his hands each week. When you have a player that has this sort of talent, you just have to do that. It’s going to take a while but it looks like once Robertson is fully fit, he’s going to become a terrifying weapon for Georgia. When you factor in some of the other players we saw yesterday, this offense could be even better than last season.
